Art Supply Organization I Storing Inventory

As an artist/small business owner, I constantly change things in my studio. I recently cleaned and reorganized my space. It was full of boxes and inventory from this past holiday season.

My Desk Setup

The latest addition to my office is a standing corner desk. https://amzn.to/42ckjku. I can adjust its height based on what I'm doing that day. It is truly a game-changer!

I recently added all of my larger paint tubes to my peg board. I found this peg board at Target in the kid's section a few years ago. Here is a similar one: https://amzn.to/3Wj78dS. I removed all my paintbrushes from a drawer and added them to a few containers I had lying around. I can quickly grab what brush I need without rummaging through a drawer. I repurposed an old makeup container to store my small packaging, such as thank you cards, fragile stickers, care cards, and small glassine bags. I love that everything is in front of me, and I can see what I have.

I wanted a bright, flexible light for when I paint. I came across this one on Amazon, and I love it. It is bright, easy to set up, and the temperature/brightness can be adjusted. https://amzn.to/4aigsEx. I highly recommend this light if you are an artist.

Storing my Product/Shipping Inventory

I'm trying to get better about having a backstock of product inventory. Since I don't get many online orders, I usually make orders as they come in. One of my goals this year is to keep my online and market inventory separate. I keep my coasters, terracotta pots, and gift tags on my shelf. I don't have a designated place to store my cards and prints, so they are in boxes.

Below my inventory is where I keep the majority of my packaging. I have multiple-sized boxes, mailers, and bubble wrap. I reuse the majority of the packaging that I get from personal packages. This has saved me so much money! I have all of my original artwork and B-grade products in decorative boxes to keep them out of the sun.

Sticker Storage

I keep all my stickers in these drawers that I got at the container store. I recently purchased a set of wider drawers because I had trouble fitting the larger stickers into the original ones. Here is a similar option to the container store one. https://amzn.to/4aigsEx

I rearrange my office at least once a year. I sometimes need to find different ways to store things as my business grows. Eventually, I will add a second shelf to store my prints and cards.

The button below will take you to my Amazon Favorites, where you can find a list of art supplies and craft fair items I currently use.

Until next time,

Jessica
